The Boston Red Sox are in position to make a splash, or a couple, this offseason.

That leaves room to sign a big-name free agent or two.

MLB insider Jon Heyman has reported that Boston could sign two notable guys.
He lists these five players of whom the Red Sox might go after two:
Alex Bregman
Kyle Schwarber
Pete Alonso
Kazuma Okamoto
J.T. Realmuto
Bregman signed a three-year contract with Boston just last offseason but opted out. The Red Sox seemed to enjoy having Bregman, so it'd make sense to get him back.
Adding one of Schwarber or Alonso would be a major addition for the middle of the order with immense raw power.

Realmuto is the best free agent catcher available. Boston needs a catcher a bit less than some teams, but the Red Sox would certainly still get better by having Realmuto on their side.
Obviously, many teams are after all five of these guys. So it wouldn't be easy to get two.
But it sounds like the Red Sox are prepared to take some big swings.
