Wicked: For Good has passed a huge milestone after just one week in theaters. The movie, which adapts the second act of the Broadway musical about the origin of the Wicked Witch of the West, debuted on November 21.

The Wicked: For Good release started off with a bang, earning $147 million during its domestic debut and smashing the record for the best opening weekend for a Broadway musical adaptation. It beat the $112.5 million record set by the original Wicked movie in 2024.

Per Variety, Wicked: For Good grossed $12.6 million at the domestic box office on Thanksgiving. This pushes the movie's cumulative domestic box office total to $207.2 million at the end of its first full week in theaters, making it only the ninth movie of 2025 to cross the $200 million domestic milestone.

In a single week, 2025's Wicked: For Good has already dominated the majority of the major domestic releases of the year, including Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning ($197.4 million domestic), Thunderbolts* ($190.3 million), F1 The Movie ($189.5 million), The Conjuring: Last Rites ($177.7 million), and Weapons ($151.5 million).

Nevertheless, it still remains to be seen how high Wicked: For Good can climb by the end of its run. In spite of hitting this major milestone, the sequel had a lower Thanksgiving haul than the original Wicked, which also debuted on the Friday before the holiday. On Thanksgiving 2024, Wicked grossed $16.8 million, thanks to a series of smaller day-to-day drops.

2024's Wicked also earned a 3-day Thanksgiving weekend total of $81.2 million and a 5-day total of $118.3 million over the holiday weekend. These totals both outpace For Good's current projections of $61 million and $91 million respectively.

Those sophomore weekends are closely comparable because both movies were competing with major Disney sequels over Thanksgiving (Moana 2 in 2024 and Zootopia 2 in 2025). While the sequel is still ahead of the original, which didn't pass the $200 domestic million milestone until the day after Thanksgiving in 2024, the lead that For Good earned during its opening weekend is rapidly deflating.

While For Good could still be on track to outgross the original's total worldwide gross of $758.4 million, it may no longer be on a trajectory to surpass the billion-dollar milestone by the end of its run.

While audiences are still responding well to the new movie, giving it a Verified Hot Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter score of 94% compared to the original's 95%, critics' Wicked: For Good reviews have given it 67% on the Tomatometer, placing it far below the original's 88%. This could be one reason the movie has slipped during its first week.
