How was Michigan linebacker Jaishawn Barham not ejected for head-butting a referee during Saturday's Ohio State rivalry game at the Big House?

During the game's first quarter, Barham objected to something one of the referees did and seemed to lightly head-butt him in the process.

The referee immediately threw an unsportsmanlike conduct flag for Barham's actions. However, the Wolverines linebacker still stayed in the game. He cost his team 15 yards on the penalty, but the team didn't lose him for the afternoon. Why wasn't Barham ejected, exactly?

We're not entirely sure, but the referee might not have taken any meaningful contact in the moment and decided the unsportsmanlike penalty was enough of a response.
