Mixon has been on the non-football injury list since the offseason because of a foot issue. We still don't have many details on the injury, and more specifically how he suffered it and what exactly is wrong.

Nevertheless, the injury has been serious enough to keep Mixon out through Week 13 of this season.

Here's what we know about his chances of suiting up in 2025.

Will Joe Mixon play this season?

Texans general manager Nick Caserio provided what we would consider a murky at best update on Mixon on Nov. 18.

Caserio noted that while Mixon has made progress in his recovery at times, there have also been instances where that progress has "stalled" and there is still no timeline for Mixon's return.

“It’s not that I’m trying to be evasive, it’s just a very gray situation,” Caserio said on Sports Radio 610. “Joe’s worked at it. There were times where he’s made progress and other times when the progress is kind of stalled. Players in his situation are on the reserve list until they’re not."

"Joe’s doing everything he can," Caserio added. "Obviously we’re getting pretty late in the game here, so I don’t want to establish any sort of expectations.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport later reported that the expectation is Mixon will not play this season.

"Texans RB Joe Mixon is not expected to play this season as he deals with a foot injury from the offseason," Rapoport reported. "Mixon likely remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list through the season."

However, Mixon himself pushed back on that report, which suggests nothing has been decided yet.

"Now, I get everyone’s looking for splash news and clickbait," Mixon stated in response to Rapoport's post. "But I’m just curious, Ian how do you know more about me than me?"

While we can certainly appreciate Mixon still holding out hope he'll play in 2025, all signs continue to point to the Texans running back sitting out the entire season.
