Auburn fired head coach Hugh Freeze a little under a month ago and has been quiet in its job search until now.

According to several sources, the Tigers have hired University of South Florida head coach Alex Golesh.

Golesh released a statement about his new job.

“Auburn Football is one of the proudest, most tradition-rich programs in all of college football and my family and I could not be more excited to join the Auburn Family," Golesh said in a release. "This will be a player-driven program, and no one will outwork our staff. Auburn has won, can win and will win championships. Let’s get to work.”

This will be Auburn’s 33rd head coach in the school’s history. Another school that also made a coaching announcement is Florida. The Gators hire Tulane’s head coach, Jon Sumrall, who has his team on the verge of making the College Football Playoff. The deal is supposed to be for six years.

This comes on the heels of the Gators being turned down by Lane Kiffin in their pursuit of him when it was discovered that Kiffin had narrowed his choices to LSU and Ole Miss.

The Gators' plan B was Sumrall, and apparently, they got their man, although it was unofficial.

Sumrall, 43, has a 42-11 record as a head coach, and has Tulane (10-2) in the midst of a push for the College Football Playoff in Sumrall's second season with the program. If the Green Wave can secure the American Conference Championship on Saturday against North Texas, they are in.

While both Auburn and Florida have made their decisions, we still await Lane Kiffin’s announcement on whether he is leaving Ole Miss.
