As anticipation for this year's The Game Awards ramps up, host Geoff Keighley has been up to his usual antics on social media. He's successfully created a wave of speculation over what could potentially be a huge reveal this December, sparking rumors about everything from a new Fallout game to a Half-Life 3 reveal—and even a possible massive God of War announcement.

TGA host and journalist Geoff Keighley posted to X a mysterious behind-the-scenes set photo with the caption "regal.inspiring.thickness." While it remains entirely unclear what the teaser image is for, God of War fans have begun speculating that a new game will be revealed at this year's The Game Awards on December 11.

Is The Game Awards Teasing God Of War?

It's Tinfoil Hat Time Thanks To Geoff

God of War fans have pounced on Keighley's cryptic post as a signal that a huge announcement is coming, such as the next mainline GoW game. All this is based on the aesthetics of the set looking strikingly similar to God of War imagery, with some players such as ShadePJ hoping for "God of War Egypt."

User BT_BlackThunder takes it a step further, zooming in to what appears to be an armor set that looks a little bit like Kratos's if you squint hard enough. The God of War speculation isn't entirely baseless, with rumors circulating over two new GoW games in development.

Keighley is likely to drop further teasers in the days leading up to The Game Awards, but in reality, we're likely not going to find out what the mysterious image is until the day of.

There Are Other Possibilities

Have You Tried The Hopium Yet?

Fans of just about every popular IP under the sun have taken Keighley's post as a sign they're getting a massive announcement this year at TGA, but to point out the obvious, best-case scenario, there is only one fandom getting good news. And that's assuming this teaser is even for an existing IP at all and not something entirely new.

Players are speculating over everything from a new Fallout reveal to an extremely unlikely Half-Life 3 announcement. The issue is that the imagery could be part of so many different IPs, such as the upcoming Returnal successor, SAROS, which has strikingly similar vibes. It's also possible the post isn't related to a specific announcement at all, though that seems extremely unlikely.

Ultimately, gamers speculating over the post don't have much to go on, and they're feeding right into the hype that Geoff Keighley wanted to create by posting something so ambiguous. Needless to say, December 11 will be an interesting and hopefully exciting day for God of War fans.
