Saturday's Sun Belt matchup between the James Madison Dukes and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers saw the Dukes put a bow on their impressive 2025 regular season and stake their claim for a potential CFP bid. It also spelled the end of an up-and-down tenure for Coastal Carolina head coach Tim Beck.
James Madison showed that they were simply on an entirely different level from Coastal Carolina in Saturday's matchup, coming away with a 59-10 win in a game that was largely decided midway through the third quarter.
With the loss, Coastal Carolina fell to 6-6 on the year, which marks a second straight season where Beck has failed to eclipse six wins in the regular season. As a result, the Chanticleers announced on Sunday that they will be going in a different direction at head coach.

According to CBS Sports college football insider Matt Zenitz, Coastal Carolina is expected to fire Beck. As for who will be the Chanticleers' head coach for their upcoming bowl game, the program will reportedly name defensive coordinator Jeremiah Johnson as their interim head coach for the upcoming matchup.

This decision comes following Beck's third season at Coastal, which has featured mixed results for the former Texas Longhorns offensive coordinator. Overall, Beck has recorded a 20-18 record during his time with the program, his best coming in his first year back in 2023.
When looking at the Chanticleers' results this season, it's easy to see why this decision came to be. Any time that Coastal Carolina took a step up in competition, like on Saturday, Beck's team looked entirely incapable of putting forward a competitive effort.
In their six losses on the year, the Chanticleers lost by an average of 36.1 points, most of which came against Power 5 or high-level Group of 5 teams.
Whoever does ultimately end up replacing Beck will have some big shoes to fill. Since joining the Sun Belt in 2017, Coastal Carolina has served as one of the better Group of 5 programs, with multiple double-digit win seasons under their belt.
Clearly, Saturday's decision means that Coastal Carolina AD Chance Miller simply didn't believe that Beck could get them back to competing at that level.
