Michigan State concluded a dreadful season on Saturday with a victory over Maryland. That will serve as Smith's final game as the Spartans head coach, finishing this season with 4-8 overall record and 1-8 mark in Big Ten play. In his two seasons as the Spartans' head coach, he never reached a bowl game and finished his time at Michigan State with a 9-15 overall record and 4-14 mark in Big Ten games.
