Michigan State football is making a change at head coach.

After months of speculation, it became official on Sunday: Jonathan Smith will not return as the Spartans' head coach next season. Reports on Smith's dismissal as the Michigan State head coach came out on Sunday afternoon, ending the speculation phase and beginning the next chapter of Spartans football.

Michigan State concluded a dreadful season on Saturday with a victory over Maryland. That will serve as Smith's final game as the Spartans head coach, finishing this season with 4-8 overall record and 1-8 mark in Big Ten play. In his two seasons as the Spartans' head coach, he never reached a bowl game and finished his time at Michigan State with a 9-15 overall record and 4-14 mark in Big Ten games.
