The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a bad run of injury luck so far this season. They’ve provided updates to three players who’ve been recently added to the injury report.

Larry Nance Jr. injured his right calf in Friday’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks. The team announced on Sunday afternoon that it is a grade 1 soleus strain. This will keep Nance sidelined for three to four weeks.

This hasn’t been the start to the season Nance likely envisioned. He’s struggled on both ends of the floor as he’s averaging just 3.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game on .354/.303/.333 shooting splits. Overall, he’s looked a step slow. We don’t know if this is an injury he was dealing with before and trying to play through. Either way, the Cavs will be without him for the next few weeks.

The Cavs have also provided an update on center Jarrett Allen. He sustained a non-displaced fracture in his left ring finger last month. This caused him to miss two games immediately after, but he played through the injury for the better part of the last month. Now, the team has announced that he will miss “approximately one week” with a right finger strain. This has caused him to miss three of the team’s last four games.

It’s been a weird season for Allen. He’s playing his fewest minutes per game since his rookie season and has been excluded from Cleveland’s closing lineups on many evenings. Whether or not that’s due to his finger injuries is unknown. Allen is averaging 14.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game on 57.3% shooting from the field.

Lastly, the Cavs provided an update on Sam Merrill, who’s missed the team’s last five games with a right-hand sprain. His injury is considered day-to-day. He will be missing Sunday’s game against the Boston Celtics as well.

Merrill has had his best season as a professional. He is averaging 13.9 points and 2.3 assists per game on .463/.444/.938 shooting splits.
