When Cam Newton came into the league in 2011, he ushered in a new era of quarterbacks who were dynamic both through the air and on the ground. Then, players like Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts came along to add onto Newton's legacy.

Allen specifically has been a dynamic dual-threat player, as someone his size hasn't always had his level of speed. Now a full-fledged superstar, Allen is on the precipice of greatness in the NFL, starting with his knack for scoring rushing touchdowns.

Allen's rushing prowess in the NFL is rare, as the Bills quarterback has been a dual-threat star since entering the league. The 2024 MVP's ability to excel as both a passer and a runner make him a unique player that very few contemporaries can rival.

Allen set the NFL record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback on Nov. 30 2025 in a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Cam Newton

Before Allen, Newton was the premier rushing quarterback in NFL history. The former Carolina Panthers star finished his career with 75 total rushing touchdowns, which was 32-more than second-place at the time of his final NFL game in 2021.

Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles' "tush push" starts with Hurts, who is one of the best running quarterbacks in NFL history already. Hurts has dominated in short-yardage situations and is able to thrive off his dual-threat abilities to help lead the Eagles offense.

Through the 2024 season, Hurts had more rushing touchdowns than playoff game appearances, as he totaled 10 rushing scores in nine games. All 10 of those touchdowns came in the 2022 and 2024 playoff runs, when the Eagles won the NFC both times.

Young was considered arguably the best dual-threat quarterback of all time until Cam Newton came along. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback scored at least one rushing touchdown in seven of his 10 playoff runs, including six after taking over for Joe Montana in 1993.

While Allen's rushing success isn't a surprise, Mahomes and Brady are on this list for their continued overall success in the playoffs. While Brady wasn't much of a runner, he played in so many playoff games that allowed him to score seven rushing touchdowns. Meanwhile, Mahomes has always been a more aggressive runner in the playoffs compared to the regular season.

Single-season QB rushing touchdown record

During the 2023 season Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts battled for the single-season quarterback touchdown record. In the end, both players scored 15 touchdowns as runners, tying each other to to pass the previous record set by Cam Newton in 2011.

Single-game QB rushing touchdown record

Many quarterbacks have scored three rushing touchdowns in a game, but only two have scored four rushing touchdowns in a single contest. Billy Kilmer initially set the record for the 49ers against the Minnesota Vikings in 1961, then Bobby Douglass with the Chicago Bears, against the Packers, in 1973.
