One of the Spartans' wide receiver commitments has announced the "opening" of his recruitment ahead of early signing day this week.
The firing of Jonathan Smith on Sunday has shaken up recruiting for the Spartans ahead of early signing day this upcoming week. A number of Michigan State committed prospects have taken to social media to provide an update on their recruitment, including three-star wide receiver Zachary Washington of Wheaton, Ill.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWashington announced on Sunday evening that he is remaining committed to Michigan State, but will open his recruitment "until early signing day" this week. That essentially means that Washington is not throwing in the towel on the Spartans but will embrace other schools should any other better opportunities present themselves.
Washington is ranked as the No. 108 wide receiver in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 class. He is also listed as the No. 19 player from Illinois in the class.
