When Iona Preparatory School and St. Francis clashed for the Catholic NY state championship, the two teams had a special visitor on hand watching the game.
FOX Sports color analyst Jonathan Vilma took in the Gaels-Red Raiders contest on Saturday afternoon, according to a X post by the Iona Prep football team. Iona Prep would win the game over St. Francis, 42-21, coming away with the Catholic NY state title.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementVilma was in town for FOX Sports, along with Kenny Albert, as he called the Sunday NFL afternoon game between the Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets, with the latter coming away with the 27-24 victory.
In the telecast the week before between the New York Giants and Detroit Lions, Vilma and Albert gave a shout out to Iona Prep for their 42-20 victory over Monsignor Farrell for the CHSFL championship.
The former NFL linebacker played from 2004-2013 for the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints in his career, was selected to the Pro Bowl three times and helped the Saints win Super Bowl XLIV during the 2009 season. During his career, Vilma racked up 879 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 11 forced fumbles, 10 fumble recoveries, 12 interceptions and scored three defensive touchdowns, according to Pro Football Reference.
Before joining FOX Sports, Vilma spent four years at ABC and ESPN, serving as a color commentator for ABC’s college pregame and halftime shows in 2018 and 2019, and as an ESPN college football analyst starting in 2016.
