Silent Hill f Day One Edition | $69.99 $49.94 at AmazonSave $20 - After years of nothing, Silent Hill made a great comeback with a SH2 remaster, but also, most importantly, an all-new instalment. This takes all the psychological horror you know and love (?) and places it in a 1960s Japan setting, proving the series can work in any setting. Available on both PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Why should you buy Silent Hill f?

As a series, Silent Hill's reputation has lasted a lot longer than the game, and after years of nothing, Konami went all in, announcing a range of new titles. The recent Silent Hill 2 remaster helped reaffirm why the series has lasted, but it's Silent Hill f that really proved it had a future.

Taking everything you know about the series - building horror on personal trauma and crafting otherworldly locations and creatures from deep-seated personal fears - this rips the game from its usual American town setting and places it in 1960s rural Japan.

That location change alone creates a disorienting, tonal uncertainty as you follow a new protagonist, Hinako. But it's how it applies the series' trademark psychological horror to her situation: creating bloated monsters from her fear of motherhood, abusive families, or lecherous old men, as she struggles against the rigid expectations of her impending adulthood as a woman.

It's a strong refresh of an otherwise familiar setup that proves Silent Hill is more of an attitude than a location, with f providing another classic instalment.
