A “lost” chapter of Quentin Tarantino‘s groundbreaking Kill Bill premiered in Fortnite over the weekend, with star Uma Thruman finding the revival “really moving”.

Yuki’s Revenge was originally written for Kill Bill Vol. One but was never filmed. “Visionary director Quentin Tarantino had a dream of a Kill Bill chapter that never made it to the silver screen, a chapter known as Yuki’s Revenge,” explained Fortnite. “Over 20 years later, Tarantino and Epic have come together to bring the story to life in Fortnite. Built with Unreal Engine and character models from Fortnite, Tarantino’s The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge stars Uma Thurman.”

The short premiered in-game yesterday (November 30) and will also be shown as part of the cinema release of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair later this month.

Some fans criticised the collab for censoring the Pussy Wagon and adding Peely to the film’s universe, but the crossover has also introduced the iconic film to a new generation.

“This is a new audience for the movie,” said Thurman, who starred in both Kill Bill films as The Bride, at a special launch event (via Variety). “It’s really moving. It’s really great, and I think it’s something meant to be,” she continued.

Speaking about reviving The Bride for the animated short, Thurman said: “It’s so novel to wear the camera on your head, but I completely forgot about it and just started to live in the moments of the scenes we were doing.”

Elsewhere during the launch event, Tarantino said he wanted “both the Kill Bill fan and the Fortnite fan to be totally effing happy about this collaboration.” He added that the original Yuki’s Revenge chapter was scrapped because it was “too crazy, too violent, and just too much action. I just didn’t think we could pull off.” However he returned to it when Fortnite approached him about creating a short film featuring his iconic characters.

The Kill Bill collab follows hugely popular Fortnite crossovers with Daft Punk and The Simpsons. After their limited-time events, Daft Punk released a Fortnite-inspired music video for ‘Contact’ and The Simpsons shared a number of cough gags influenced by the hit game.

In other news, the team behind Hollow Knight: Silksong say they’re not expecting to pick up the coveted Game Of The Year trophy at this year’s Game Awards.
