Italian tennis legend Nicola Pietrangeli has died at age 92, the national federation FITP said on Monday, citing his family.
Pietrangeli became the nation's first grand slam champion with French Open titles in 1959 and 1960. He later captained Italy to Davis Cup glory in 1976.

Pietrangeli had recently made headlines when he criticised Italy's top player from not playing in last month's Davis Cup Finals. He named Sinner's withdrawal "a slap in the face of the sports community." Italy defended the title without Sinner, beating Spain.
