The Denver Broncos (10-2) held on to beat the Washington Commanders (3-9) in a crazy 27-26 overtime win on Sunday night. Here are five quick takeaways from the game.
1. The officiating was poor: There were bad calls that hurt both teams. Bo Nix took a direct helmet-to-helmet hit that was not called, Nik Bonitto was penalized for pulling an opponent off a one-person pile (and Laremy Tunsil was not penalized for retaliating by slamming Bonitto), Marcus Mariota was the victim of a bad intentional grounding penalty, officials missed a tripping penalty -- and more. In a primetime spotlight, the NFL's officials underwhelmed.

Jaleel McLaughlin was better with an average of 4.0 yards per tote, but overall, the Broncos' ground game has not yet returned to form since the Dobbins injury. Next week, Denver will face a Las Vegas Raiders defense that allows 3.8 yards per carry, the third-best average in the NFL. The Broncos survived on Sunday as Nix surpassed 300 passing yards, but they have to improve on the ground down the stretch.
3. Alex Singleton was clutch in his return: After undergoing surgery for testicular cancer, Singleton missed one game and is now cancer-free. He returned to the lineup on Sunday and totaled six tackles, two pass breakups and one quarterback hit.
4. Bo Nix had throw of the year: On a night when Commanders receiver Treylon Burks may have secured catch of the year honors, Nix also turned heads with an amazing 11-yard touchdown pass to receiver Courtland Sutton. Nix finished the game 29-of-45 passing for 321 yards with one score and one interception. This was the highlight of the night:
5. The No. 1 seed is within reach: After improving to 10-2, the Broncos have a realistic chance of securing the No. 1 seed this season. They are currently above the New England Patriots (10-2), who are yet to play on Monday Night Football. Even if the Pats win on Monday, Denver will have five games to attempt to make up ground down the stretch. There's still a lot of football left to play, but the team is well-positioned to secure a top seed in the conference.
