Earlier this season, Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck was linked with a potential move to Bayern Munich during the 2026 summer transfer window, but the German international diplomatically played down the links at the time. Interest from Bayern in Schlotterbeck had grown when the futures of both Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae were more unclear, though there are still currently some financial roadblocks standing in the way of the former and Bayern agreeing on a contract extension. Kim is the more likely of the pair to wind up leaving either this winter or summer.
As things stand, Schlotterbeck’s contract with Dortmund runs through June 2027 and he is valuated at 40 million euros — a value that increased to that mark towards the end of last season.

The Bundesliga champion’s honorary president has long since been of fan of the defender and wanted Bayern to sign him back when he was with SC Freiburg, but he chose to go to Dortmund back in the summer of 2022 for a fee of around 25 million euros.
Hoeneß is quite fond of Schlotterbeck’s mentality and also very much likes the fact that he is a German international that is regularly picked by Julian Nagelsmann. He’s had off and on injury problems in recent seasons, but with everyone on the German squad fit an healthy, he’d more than likely be a starter come next summer at the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Additionally, as Falk reports, there are several members of Schlotterbeck’s family that are Bayern fans, which could help add impetus for the defender to naturally make that next step in his career.
Just how likely is it that Schlotterbeck would come to Bayern, though? If the club winds up agreeing on a contract extension with Upamecano, then the proper finances to fund a Schlotterbeck move likely would not be there, especially having signed Jonathan Tah for the same position from Bayer Leverkusen last summer. If an extension for the French international winds up falling through and he leaves Bayern over the summer, a potential move for Schlotterbeck would become more probable.
