News of HBO’s new Harry Potter series is steady, with it most recently revealed that Rupert Grint has sent a letter to the new Ron Weasley, 11-year-old Alastair Stout, "wishing him all the best" and hoping "he has the same experience" as the original actor. However, Grint wasn't the first of the beloved trio to offer his best wishes, with Daniel Radcliffe also writing to his successor, Dominic McLaughlin.
"I just wanted to write to him to say, ‘I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did — I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time,’" Radcliffe shared, with this kind sentiment a welcome respite from the constant controversy that surrounds this reboot. Now, McLaughlin himself has finally responded, saying he was handed the letter when he was on a train home to Glasgow.
In an interview with the BBC show Saturday Mash-Up! Live, McLaughlin admitted, "It was insane. My Dad tapped me on the train and just gave me this letter. I read it and then I got to the bottom, and it said, ‘Dan R.’ I was going mad, but I had to [keep cool]. I was on the train." When questioned about how production was going on the series, McLaughlin responded, "It’s going amazing, it’s going really well. I’ve made good friends with everyone, it’s great to be there." Production began on the series this summer, with the first season not expected to air until 2027.
The 'Harry Potter' Series Already Has a Season 2 Update
With there still over a year until viewers get their first taste of a brand-new Hogwarts, some thoughts have already moved to the second season, set to adapt the second novel in the acclaimed fantasy series. HBO's chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys admitted recently that the plan was to avoid a large gap between seasons by moving somewhat seamlessly between productions. "The plan is to still try and get it — I don’t know if it’s going to be like stop shooting Season 1 on Friday and start Season 2 on Monday," Bloys admitted, adding:
"There’ll be a break in there, but we’re going to do whatever we can to not have a huge gap. For the kids, obviously, but also for viewers. You know, trying to not have massive gaps. It is a big show, lots of special effects, obviously, massive operation, but we’re going to do what we can."
The new Harry Potter series is set to premiere in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max.
