Alabama basketball came back from Las Vegas with two of the program's best performances during the Nate Oats era, but the three-day stint in Sin City started with a loss that stumped the Crimson Tide's Players Era Festival championship hopes.

In the polls, the 95-85 defeat from Gonzaga weighed more than the victories over UNLV and Maryland, too.

Coming into the tournament, Alabama (5-2) was ranked No. 9, but falling to the formerly-10th ranked Zags dropped the team's ranking to No. 12 in the Coaches Poll. Gonzaga dropped to No. 11 with the Players Era Championship loss to No. 2 Michigan.

The first NET rankings of the 2025-26 season were released on Monday, Dec. 1, as well.

Although Alabama has wins against Quad 1 opponents − St. John's and Illinois − the Crimson Tide's losses to Gonzaga and Purdue see the team start at No. 14. A 2-2 Quad 1 record is still the second-best in the country, only topped by undefeated Michigan, which has gone 3-0 against Quad 1 groups to be the No. 1 team in the NET rankings.
