Head coach Dave Canales talked with reporters on Monday, putting a bow on a successful Week 13 showing against the Los Angeles Rams. With the team about to hit their bye week, he was asked about the status of right guard Robert Hunt—who has missed the last 11 games due to a biceps tear.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement"He's working his way back, he's doing a great job in return-to-play," Canales replied. "He's getting stronger, and we just have to continue to take it week by week to see. We want that strength in his arm to come back so that he has balance and can be able to stop a big man trying to redirect—and we're gonna have to be really smart about that.
"I can't tell you exactly what the timeline is. But it'll be a weekly thing to kinda see where he's at."
Hunt went down in Carolina's Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The right guard position has since been manned by the likes of Brady Christensen, Austin Corbett, Chandler Zavala and, most recently, Jake Curhan—who got the starting nod in Sunday's 31-28 victory.
Canales was later asked about cornerback Jaycee Horn, one of a handful of absentees from the upset win. He said that he expects to have Horn back following the break.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement"Both he and [Claudin Cherelus] are still in the concussion protocol, but daily improvement," Canales stated. "And we'll circle back around once we get closer to next week."
Horn sustained his concussion in the Week 12 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers.
