Manchester United have been dealt a timely injury boost ahead of their midweek Premier League clash with West Ham at Old Trafford.

After a disappointing 1-0 defeat to ten-man Everton last Monday, United bounced back with an impressive 2-1 away win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

The Red Devils went behind to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s first-half penalty, but goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount saw them pull off a second-half comeback to get back to winning ways and move up to seventh in the table.

Ruben Amorim’s side have little time to recover, though, and are back in action on Thursday for the visit of West Ham.

But United have been dealt a boost with the return of Matheus Cunha, who announced his return to training on social media after missing his side’s last two matches following an accident in training.

Posting on his Instagram story alongside a picture of him in training, Cunha wrote: ‘Back back back!’

It is unclear if the Brazilian will be fit enough to start on Thursday, although Amorim is expected to provide an update in his pre-match press conference.

Cunha signed from Wolves for £62.5million, but has only one goal and no assists in his first 10 league games so far this season.

In that regard 26-year-old has been outshone by fellow summer signings Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, who have scored five and two league goals respectively.

Sesko is currently unavailable after picking up an injury against Tottenham prior to the recent November international break.

Speaking last weekend on the Slovenian striker, Amorim said: ‘Sesko is going to take a little bit more time [than Cunha]. It will take a little bit longer, and we are taking care of him.’

Elsewhere, Harry Maguire remains sidelined with a hamstring injury he also picked up in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

But there was positive signs in central defence at the weekend after Lisandro Martinez made his long-awaited return from a knee injury.

The Argentine came on as a late sub in the second half against Palace, almost ten months after he suffered an ACL injury against the Eagles last season.
