As it does at the beginning of every month, Netflix has added new movies and TV shows to its catalog, among them an underrated HBO thriller starring Elizabeth Olsen. Netflix has stood out for its content, both licensed and original, with some of the latter now ranking among the best TV shows of all time.
In recent months, Netflix has also become home to some HBO TV shows, most notably Sex and the City. This has been possible thanks to a licensing agreement, so these shows can reach a wider audience, with many being found on both HBO Max and Netflix. Now arriving on the latter is an HBO thriller starring Elizabeth Olsen, and it’s a must-watch.
Elizabeth Olsen's Love & Death Is Now Streaming On Netflix
Candy lying on a bed in a prison cell in Love & Death
Elizabeth Olsen rose to fame with her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, and there was a lot of anticipation around her work after the MCU. One of her first roles after her time as Scarlet Witch ended was Candy Montgomery in HBO’s thriller miniseries Love & Death.
Created by David E. Kelley and based on a true story, Love & Death tells the story of Candy Montgomery, a housewife in late 1970s Texas. Candy is unhappy in her life and marriage, and she develops an attraction towards Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons), a member of Candy’s church group who is married to Betty (Lily Rabe).
Allan and Betty have their own problems as well, as they are struggling to have another child. Bonding over the problems in their marriages, Candy and Allan begin an affair, which later leads Candy to commit a horrible crime. Love & Death is only seven episodes long, but it was a big hit.
Love & Death is among the TV shows that have now been added to Netflix, and thriller fans who couldn’t watch it on HBO Max and have a Netflix subscription can now enjoy one of the best and most underrated thriller TV shows of the last decade.
Why Love & Death Is Worth Watching
The biggest strength of Love & Death is its performances, particularly that of Elizabeth Olsen. Olsen shows her range in her performance as Candy Montgomery, bringing to life the complexities of the character. Love & Death also has a strong supporting cast, with Plemons’ performance standing out.
Love & Death goes into the psychology of the characters and Candy’s actions, though without trying to justify her or sugarcoat the events. One of the show’s biggest draws is that it’s based on a true story, although, like any other show of its kind, it took some creative liberties to better fit the format.
Love & Death is also easy to binge-watch thanks to its engaging story and mystery, and to being just seven episodes long. Love & Death is one of the best additions to Netflix’s catalog in December, and it’s a must-watch for fans of thriller shows and crime dramas.
