The Green Bay Packers are currently 8-3, and are still gunning for the top spot in the NFC North. Ahead of their critical game against the Chicago Bears, the team announced some huge roster additions.

One of the biggest concerns for the Packers has been the running game. Oddly enough, Josh Jacobs currently has a 3.9 yards per carry average, which is low in comparison to his 4.4 in 2024. Green Bay sits in the middle of the pack with a 4.0 yards per carry average, which is just below the league average of 4.4 yards.

It could be that the Packers may not have enough players in the backfield to assist Jacobs. Emmanuel Wilson has stepped up at time, but more may be needed.

Help could be on the way in the form of second-year running back Marshawn Lloyd.

The Packers announced that Lloyd will return from injured reserve, as will defensive end Brenton Cox. This is huge roster news for Green Bay. It might finally be time for the team to see what Lloyd can do.

Lloyd missed the majority of his rookie season, except for one regular season game. He suffered multiple injuries in 2024, including hip, hamstring, ankle injuries, and appendicitis, leading to him missing the entire season.

Lloyd then missed most of the 2025 season due to a hamstring injury he suffered in preseason. Though Lloyd is essentially a rookie, he could be dynamic in his return to the field.

Cox missed the majority of the season due to suffering a significant groin injury in the opener against the Detroit Lions. However, he is also being activated off the IR.

Both Lloyd and Cox have had injury histories at the beginning of their careers, but they are fully healthy. The Packers will get to see if both can be contributors as they return from extended time while healing.
