Dec. 1—ABERDEEN, S.D. — The Mitchell Marlins girls hockey team moved into the win column for the first time this season on Sunday with a 2-0 road win over Aberdeen.
Kaylie O'Connor made 24 saves in the shutout win for the Marlins in net. Livaya Mimmack scored a goal in the first period with assists from Makenna Tronnes and Taylor Sorben, while Hailey Bottolfson had an unassisted third-period marker of her own to make up the 2-0 margin.

The Marlins (1-2), who fell 2-1 to Oahe on Nov. 22 and 7-0 to Sioux Falls on Nov. 23, will travel to Watertown on Dec. 5 for a road contest. Mitchell is at home at noon on Dec. 6 against Brookings.
MITCHELL — The Mitchell Marlins boys hockey team left the loss column for the first time on Friday, Nov. 28, skating to a 3-3 tie against Huron before falling 9-2 to Yankton on Saturday, Nov. 29, moving to 0-3-1 on the season.
Mitchell was down 2-0 and later 3-1 after two periods to Huron. Everett Morrison had the first goal of the game, assisted by Jack Hohn. After Huron scored in the final moments of the second period for a 3-1 lead, Wyatt Rezac and Caden Schuldt each scored in the first 8 minutes of the third period to tie the game, with Schuldt and Preston Maeschen each earning assists on the respective goals. Gavin Polreis made 24 saves, while Jace Gerber kept Huron in the game with 49 stops of his own.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMitchell finished with a 52-27 edge in shots on goal, including 36-11 after two periods, while Huron had an 8-6 edge in shots in overtime. The game included a pair of big penalty kills late, with Huron fighting off a 5-on-3 for the Marlins in the final minutes of regulation and a 5-on-4 in the final 58 seconds of the third period and into overtime. Mitchell was down a man after a tripping call with 3 minutes left in overtime, but the Marlins killed the penalty.
On Saturday, Mitchell led 2-1 after one period, thanks to goals from Morrison and Maeschen but were outscored 5-0 in the second period and 8-0 over the final two periods. Hohn and Lincoln Zoss had assists for Mitchell. Jace Sedlacek was a standout performer for the Bucks, completing a hat trick, while Tucker Renken also contributed a multi-goal game.
The Marlins were outshot 42-19 by the Bucks. Yankton goaltender Luke Moeller earned the win, turning away 17 shots, while Mitchell's Gavin Polreis took the loss, despite 33 saves.
Mitchell, which started the season with losses to Sioux Falls West and Oahe, faces Huron again on Friday, Dec. 5, at Bergman Arena in Huron, before hosting Brookings at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.
