Manchester City return to action on Tuesday night as they travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham.

Following on from a narrow win over Daniel Farke’s Leeds courtesy of an injury-time winner from Phil Foden, City will be looking to build upon their winning ways domestically but will be hoping for a much more convincing display.

On Saturday afternoon, Pep Guardiola’s side at first glance looked as if they would breeze past the Yorkshire club, as Foden and Josko Gvardiol put the home side two in front inside 25 minutes. It was, however, not a simple task due to issues purely of City’s own creation.

The second period can only be described as calamitous in defence, as two inexcusable errors gave the visitors right of passage to score twice in 19 minutes, putting Manchester City in a needlessly precarious position in a game they were once in complete control of.

Phil Foden, however, was not going to let the Blues go three competitive games without a win, unleashing a superb strike into the bottom corner past Lucas Perri to snatch all three points in injury time.

Marco Silva’s Fulham come into the game off the back of an upturn in form following two consecutive league victories over Sunderland and Tottenham. The Cottagers sit 15th, just six points above the relegation zone, but following a huge win in North London, those of a black and white persuasion will be hoping they can extend that gap further.

A win for City would see them move within two points of leaders Arsenal prior to their face-off against Brentford at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. This comes after dropped points from both the Gunners and Chelsea following a draw between the sides on Sunday, which may have offered City fans a glimmer of hope in the early stages of the title race.

If the Blues wish to regain momentum and announce themselves as serious title challengers, this fixture is immensely important for Pep Guardiola and his players. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Manchester City’s midweek clash with Fulham!

Team News

For the hosts, two are sidelined as American Antonee Robinson appears to be unavailable until mid-December with a knee injury sustained in October, whilst Brazilian Rodrigo Muniz is absent due to a hamstring injury – ruling him out until at least February.

For Manchester City, the injury issues remain the same, with the burden on the shoulders of Pep Guardiola relatively light. Mateo Kovacic remains absent as he recovers from surgery on his Achilles, and with his rehabilitation underway, the No.8 is expected back around February.

Rodri remains unable to make Manchester City’s trip to the English capital this week, with the Spaniard’s level of fitness for match action uncertain, and therefore he continues to not be risked by Guardiola and staff.

Press Conference Quotes

Pep Guardiola: “Marco [Silva] is many, many years there. And always it has been really, really tough games, difficult. Their organisation is exceptional, and every year I have the feeling that with the ball they are better and better. Tough, tough opponents.

“I saw their games these days and today, against Chelsea, against Arsenal, last game against Sunderland, and always it’s so, so difficult for the opponents to break up them. And yeah, always has been in this beautiful stadium in London.”

Head-to-Head

Last time out against Fulham, Manchester City ran out 0-2 victors at Craven Cottage thanks to a stunning overhead kick from Ilkay Gundogan followed by an assured penalty from Erling Haaland to secure all three points.

Historically, the Blues have had the better of Tuesday night’s opposition, as in the 58 games between the sides, Manchester City have come out on top on 37 occasions, drawing 11 and, losing the remaining 10.

Statistics

Fulham have lost their last 18 meetings with Manchester City in all competitions, the longest losing run one side has had against another in English football history. City have won their last 15 Premier League games against Fulham, the longest winning run one side has had against another in English league history.

Erling Haaland has scored six goals in six Premier League appearances against Fulham, the most of any player since the Cottagers returned to the top flight in 2022/23. The only player to net more goals against Premier League sides managed by Marco Silva overall is Harry Kane (seven in five games).

Bernd Leno has faced Manchester City on 12 occasions in the Premier League and lost all 12 games (six with Arsenal, six with Fulham), conceding 34 goals. In Premier League history, the only players to face a team more often and lose every game are Jordan Ayew vs Chelsea (17) and Ashley Westwood vs Manchester City (14).

Erling Haaland sits one goal away from a century of Premier League strikes after being deprived of the milestone by both Newcastle and Leeds. The Norwegian has found the net 99 times in 110 league appearances in sky blue, and if he were to get on the scoresheet on Tuesday night, the No.9 would be the fastest to reach 100 league goals – 13 games quicker than Alan Shearer, who accomplished the feat in his 124th match.

How to Watch
