The year is 2023, and Amelia Gray has never worked with Miu Miu before. Though the rising model already has stacks of high-profile clients under her belt, a co-sign from Miuccia Prada’s little sister brand has eluded her. That was, until, a little help from a vintage Drew Barrymore campaign.

“I’ll never forget it, because it happened so quickly,” says the model, speaking from her home in Los Angeles. “I was at my friend’s house in New York during the winter, we were making mood boards. We would just go to Casa Magazines and buy a bunch of magazines, Pinterest a bunch of things on our iPads, print them out, whatever.” It was then that Gray came across a SS95 Miu Miu campaign starring Barrymore – all pastel pinks and platinum pin-up curls. “I printed it out, put it on my board, and I forgot about it,” Gray continues. “About a month later, I got a call saying ‘Miu Miu wants to do an exclusive with you”, and I literally thought that someone was fucking with me.”

Gray made her Miu Miu runway debut on the AW23 catwalk in a pair of bedazzled red pants, the 63rd look of the brand’s infamous ‘librarian chic’ show. Over the years Gray continues to be a go-to face for the brand, returning for various catwalks and campaigns, and now the pair have solidified their partnership even further, with the model-of-the-moment curating her very own wardrobe of Miu Miu favourites for the label’s Select series (which you can browse here).

In the convo below, we quizzed Gray on her favourite pieces in her Miu Miu wardrobe, her purpose beyond modelling, and the niche knowledge you didn’t know she possessed.

A IS FOR… ADVICE. WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is from my mom, and that is to be kind to everybody and work hard. It sounds cliché, but it’s very important.

B IS FOR…BIRTHPLACE. WHERE WERE YOU BORN?

I was born in Los Angeles, California. Born and bred – one of the rare ones!

C IS FOR…CRUSH. WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST CRUSH?

My boyfriend!

D IS FOR…DREAM. WHAT WAS YOUR CHILDHOOD DREAM?

My childhood dream first was to be an astronaut, and then the second one was to be a model, so at least I’m living one. But fun fact, my grandfather – my dad’s dad – actually was one of the main rocket scientists for Apollo 11, the first rocket to the moon. I grew up fascinated by it, but my fascination switched from being an astronaut to being a supermodel once I met Cindy Crawford. But I’m still trying to be an astronaut though!

E IS FOR…ENDGAME. WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL?

I think we get so caught up in surface level things in terms of goals, whether it be, for me, walking runways, shooting campaigns, being on magazine covers. But underneath all of that, what is the actual end goal? I think I’m learning that my goal is just really simple: happiness, fulfillment, love, family, and just making change in whatever way I can.

F IS FOR…FOOD. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?

Goop pizza. I’ve been spending a lot of time in LA so it’s Goop’s ‘Pepperoni Pots’ pizza. I’m not sure what kind of crack cocaine Gwyneth put in that pizza, but I’m addicted to it.

G IS FOR…GOD. DO YOU HAVE FAITH OR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE?

I’m very spiritual, but I think recently, as I dive deeper into my spiritual practice and understand all different types of practices and religions, it all comes down to one thing that is greater than us. In the past, I had a stigma around ‘religion versus spirituality’, but I’m learning that it’s the same thing. Essentially, it’s something to have faith in.

H IS FOR…HOUSEWIFE. WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE LISA RINNA BEVERLY HILLS MOMENT?

I’m loving ‘It’s wackadoodle time.’ I see that on my Tiktok quite often. Also, this is so horrible of me to say, but now seeing the clips of her exploding on Kim Richards and throwing the wine glass saying ‘Don’t talk about the husband’ – that’s pretty major. In the moment I was actually horrified, but now it’s pretty major [laughs] I’ll never forget hearing about the Amsterdam trip when she got home. It was just Amsterdam in my household for the next two weeks after that.

I IS FOR…INTERNET. WHERE DO YOU SPEND THE MOST TIME ONLINE?

I’m so bad online. I guess I just spend time on Instagram and TikTok, but I don’t even enjoy it. I guess I enjoy TikTok when my feed is really interesting – a mixture of alien conspiracy theories, the Schumann resonances and psychics predicting things.

J IS FOR…JOKES. WHO MAKES YOU LAUGH THE MOST IN THE WORLD?

My boyfriend. I’m actually the luckiest, because I am on the floor every single second with him, and I’m convinced he’s the reason I will live very long. My boyfriend and also my mom, but my mom’s ironically funny after the fact. Sometimes I don’t find my mom funny in the moment, whereas my boyfriend could have a full stand up comedy show and everybody would be laughing.

K IS FOR…KNOWLEDGE. WHAT’S SOMETHING NICHE THAT YOU KNOW A LOT ABOUT?

I know a lot about health and wellness, and I think that’s part of my mission in a way. The modelling industry is known to be one of the most unhealthy industries to be in. I think my ‘thing’ is to change the stigma behind starving yourself, being unhealthy, partying and just not being good to yourself. My whole shtick is completely different. Before I was a model, I was going to school for food and psychology, so I know a lot about health and wellness, muscle density, bone density, the amount of protein you’re supposed to eat. I want to be that spokesperson in my industry.

L IS FOR…LOVE. WHAT’S THE MOST ROMANTIC THING SOMEONE’S EVER DONE FOR YOU?

I will say, I’ve had some pretty shitty luck in love, but recently I’ve really hit the jackpot with my man. We started dating on vacation, which was pretty unconventional. He took me on our first proper date once we were home and I didn’t know where we were going. He was just like ‘be ready at 7:30’. He picks me up, we go to this lounge place, and all of a sudden we get walked to our table, and he rented out this whole cute little Omakase bar just for us, and it was so fun.

After the Omakase dinner, this woman came and she was like, ‘let me take you guys on a tour since you’ve never been here.’ The last room we get to is this beautiful room with all of these records, and then my boyfriend DJed me all of our favourite songs, and we just danced on this dancefloor alone for like, two hours. It was so fucking cute. And I literally cried in the bathroom because it was the cutest thing ever.

M IS FOR…MIU MIU. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MIU MIU MOMENT OF ALL TIME?

It’s when they did the SS95 campaign with Drew Barrymore. That was the first time I manifested Miu Miu. In 2020, I printed out that campaign, and I put it on my board, and I forgot about it. About a month later I got a call saying ‘Miu Miu wants to do an exclusive with you’, and I literally thought that someone was fucking with me.

N IS FOR…NATURE. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE ANIMAL?

OK, I’m going to say two animals. Because I know the healing and soothing effects that a dog can have on a human being, immediately dog is number one. Number two, I’m extremely fascinated by cats at the moment. I used to be terrified of them, but I just feel like they’re so intelligent. They’re full ypsychic. It sounds a little woo woo, but trust me.

O IS FOR…OPINION. WHAT’S YOUR HOT TAKE?

My hot take is that The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is the only Housewives that matters.

P IS FOR…PARTY. WHERE’S THE BEST PLACE TO GO OUT?

Ibiza. I had a beautiful time this summer.

Q IS FOR…QUIET. WHERE DO YOU GO TO GET PEACE AND QUIET?

I go into nature and I go to my parents’ house. And I like to be in water, though I’m terrified of the ocean a little bit. But ocean water is the most healing thing for the human body, because we’re made up of 75 per cent water. It can reset the stress in your body quicker than most things can.

R IS FOR…READING. WHAT BOOK COULD YOU READ AGAIN AND AGAIN?

Everyone’s gonna make fun of me for this, but any Colleen Hoover book. I’m sitting here staring at November 9.

S IS FOR…SELECT. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE FROM YOUR MIU MIU SELECT CURATION?

I would have to say the pink skirt. The pink skirt is really major. I mean the fur jacket and the pink skirt.

T IS FOR…TV. WHO WOULD PLAY YOU IN A TV SHOW ABOUT YOUR LIFE?

I would!

U IS FOR…UNDERRATED. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS UNDERRATED?

Being alone is so underrated.

V IS FOR…VIDEO. WHAT’S THE LAST VIDEO IN YOUR CAMERA ROLL?

It’s of [Rachel Sennott’s TV show] I Love LA. I was sending a video to my friend True Whittaker who plays Alani, just being like ‘you’re so major’. That show is exactly like LA in real life.

W IS FOR…WALK. HOW DO YOU GET IN THE MINDSET FOR WALKING THE RUNWAY?

It’s super easy, because the outfit creates the walk – it creates the characters. So I sort of let the clothes do all the talking. It’s sort of like, if the clothes could talk, what would they say? Or how they would move? And then I just go. There’s not that much thinking.

X IS FOR…EX. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE TRYING TO GET OVER THEIR EX?

Make a pros and cons list. What did they add to your life and what did they take? Most of the time they took more than they gave. Just sayin’!

Y IS FOR…YOUNGER SELF. WHAT’S ONE THING YOU WOULD SAY TO YOUR 13-YEAR-OLD SELF?

I would say, I am so fucking proud of you. You are so cool and so strong, and I can’t wait for you to see what you do.

Z IS FOR… ZZZ. WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU CAN’T SLEEP AT NIGHT?

Oh my god, this is actually such a prominent question for my life. It really all just comes down to meditation and breathing and staying calm. As LA as it sounds, you have to understand that the lesson in not being able to sleep is just the lesson of surrender. Get your mind into that state of surrender, then you will sleep.
