A man was stabbed to death after an argument flared up in a Post Office close to Wembley Stadium, witnesses have said.

Police launched a manhunt for the killer after a 22-year-old was knifed in front of horrified shoppers on High Road in Wembley, north west London, just before 1pm on Monday, December 1.

Paramedics took the victim out of the shop and battled to save his life on the roadside, but he later died in hospital.

A delivery rider who was working close by told Metro: ‘There was an argument in the post office and the man was stabbed.

‘Shoppers were running and taking cover. It was terrifying, it was like they were running for their lives. Wembley is busy and there were mothers with prams and kids around – some people were screaming.’

He added: ‘The paramedics took him outside and were giving him chest compressions for ages. They worked very hard to save him.’

Dozens of police rushed to the scene and they trawled the streets looking to track down the killer.

A police cordon remains around the scene.

Forensics officers are scouring for clues while detectives trawl through CCTV footage from the area, including cameras inside the post office.

A restaurant worker described how shoppers flew out of the post office with one shouting ‘he’s been stabbed’.

Mohammed Abde told Metro: ‘One person was shouting “he’s been stabbed” as they ran. Police arrived and ordered everyone to clear the area. It was very busy on the street and there was panic.’

A police statement said: ‘Officers responded to reports of a stabbing in High Road Wembley at 12:55hrs on Monday, 1 December.

‘The 22-year-old victim was treated at the scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital where he later died.

‘His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.’

No arrests have been made and a post-mortem examination is still due to be held.

Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, said: ‘My thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time.

‘Knife crime has a devastating impact on communities and our officers are here to support local residents with any concerns. Residents can expect to see an increased police presence over the next few days.

‘In the meantime, our dedicated officers are working at speed to piece together this tragic incident. Anyone with relevant information should not hesitate to share it with us.’

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: ‘We sent resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars and an incident response officer.

‘We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London Air Ambulance. We treated the man at the scene and took him to hospital as a priority.’
