The Connecticut high school football quarterfinals, which were supposed to be played Tuesday at various sites around the state, were postponed until Wednesday due to inclement weather that has been forecast.
Here are some of the matchups with local teams that will take place Wednesday. All games will be played at 6:30 p.m. at the site of the higher seed.

No. 5 Glastonbury (7-3) at No. 4 Southington (7-3): Southington comes into the playoffs on a roll, with a five-game win streak and a 31-0 Thanksgiving Day victory over Cheshire. Glastonbury has won four straight since losing an OT game to New Britain. Glastonbury and Southington met on Sept. 18 and Glastonbury won in OT, 41-35.
No. 8 NFA (6-4) vs. No. 1 New Britain (8-1): New Britain has quality wins over Southington and Glastonbury and its only loss was a close one to the team ranked second in Class LL, Fairfield Prep. Senior Jayden Allen has rushed for 1,423 yards and 25 touchdowns and junior QB Billy Seymour has passed for 1,121 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Class L
No. 5 ATI (8-2) at No. 4 Weaver/Hartford Public/Classical (8-2), at Weaver High: The Hartford co-op is in its first year and in the playoffs for the first time and has won six straight, with its only losses to two playoff teams, North Branford and Cromwell/Portland. Senior Jaiden Booth, who will play at Central Connecticut next year, has 770 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns and freshman quarterback Kadain Claflin-Coy has thrown for 2,010 yards and 24 TDs.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementNo. 6 Fairfield Ludlowe (7-3) at No. 3 Cheshire (7-3): Cheshire will be looking to rebound from a 31-0 loss to Southington on Thanksgiving Day. The Rams will face a FCIAC-toughened Ludlowe team who – in its last four games – lost to St. Joseph, ranked fourth in the Courant’s state coaches poll, and No. 6 Greenwich, but beat Staples and Fairfield Warde.
Class MM
No. 8 Valley Panthers (7-3) at No. 1 Windsor (9-1): Some of the Windsor veterans, including senior quarterback AJ Robinson, have been here before. Two years ago, the Warriors lost in the semifinals and last year they lost in the final on a last-second FG to Masuk. Windsor’s only loss was to Southington on Nov. 7. The Valley Panthers won their last four games.
No. 5 Middletown (7-3) at No. 4 Newington (8-2): Newington had a breakout season last year, advancing to the Class MM semifinals, where Windsor shut out the Nor’easters. Newington won two games the year before. Middletown is having that kind of breakout year this season after going 3-7 last year.

No. 7 Platt Tech (7-3) at No. 2 Berlin (10-0): Berlin completed its first unbeaten season since 2022, when the Redcoats went 10-0 and advanced to the state final, where they lost to Notre Dame-West Haven. Senior QB Cody Puzio has rushed for 630 yards and 15 touchdowns and has had 14 touchdown passes for Berlin, which advanced to the semifinals last year.
No. 6 Holy Cross (7-3) at No. 3 Rockville (9-1): The Rams have won their last three, including a 33-29 win over previously unbeaten Cromwell/Portland, No. 3 seed in Class S. Two of Holy Cross’ three losses were to last year’s state champions – Class S champ Ansonia and Class MM champ Masuk – and Woodland was a Class S semifinalist (who lost to Ansonia).
Class SS
No. 8 Ellington (7-3) at No. 1 Killingly (10-0): Killingly is the defending Class SS champion and has scored 60 points or more in its last four games. Ellington lost its last two games to two playoff teams, Weaver/Hartford Public/Classical and Rockville.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementNo. 7 Waterford (6-4) at No. 2 Hand (9-1): Hand moves from Class M, where the Tigers lost in the semifinal last year to St. Joseph and had won the title two years ago. Senior QB Bobby Reh has completed 116 of 188 passes for 1,857 yards and 23 touchdowns for Hand and junior Lucca Boyce has rushed for 1,099 yards and 13 TDs.
Class S
No. 8 Bloomfield (7-3) at No. 1 Woodland (10-0): Bloomfield is a regular in the state tournament, with the Warhawks advancing to the finals every year since 2018. Last year, Bloomfield lost to Ansonia but won the Class S title the year before. Woodland’s closest game this season came against Seymour, a 28-14 win, on Thanksgiving Eve.
No. 5 Sheehan (8-2) at No. 4 North Branford (9-1): Sheehan was the Class SS runner-up last year, running into the Killingly buzzsaw in the championship game. North Branford’s only loss came to Cromwell/Portland, another Class S quarterfinalist, while Sheehan dropped games to Class L quarterfinalist Cheshire and Fairfield Prep, the second seed in Class LL.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementNo. 6 Northwest Catholic (9-1) at No. 3 Cromwell/Portland (9-1): Cromwell/Portland has significant playoff history of late, winning the title in 2021, advancing to the state championship game in 2023 and the quarterfinals last year in Class S. Northwest Catholic is having one of its best seasons and and made it to the playoffs after just missing out last year. QB Vincent Burbank has 1,957 passing yards and 30 touchdowns and senior Kayden Davis caught 20 of those passes and has 1,081 receiving yards.
