Thirteen-year Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops was officially relieved of his duties as head coach early Monday morning. After back-to-back losing seasons for the Cats, it was time for the program to make a change.
From a few sources around the Wildcats program, including KSR’s Matt Jones, it was said that Stoops was in a “good place” following his departure at Kentucky. Jones also reported that Stoops “may stick around Lexington” until he finds a new gig.

“I love Mark (Stoops),” said Pope. “I talked to him today and exchanged texts after the Louisville game, and we spent some time together last week. What he’s done for UK is incredible. He’s the greatest, most successful coach to ever coach here. He gave his heart and soul to this place. I’m grateful for his friendship and mentorship here at Kentucky.”
Stoops also told Pope that he is a Kentuckian through and through, and it sounds like he would like to spend the rest of his life in Lexington if possible.
Stoops ended his Wildcats career as the most winningest coach in program history. The Kentuckian gave it all he had to build this program to where it is now.
