The Toronto Blue Jays were one of the best teams in baseball last season and fell just short of winning the World Series. They could be aggressive in free agency to get back to the Fall Classic.
The Blue Jays have already reportedly agreed to sign Dylan Cease. However, there are still plenty of stars left on the open market. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Blue Jays are viewed as favorites by other executives to sign Kyle Tucker. However, Bo Bichette could also be a priority for them.
With so many star players yet to sign, the Blue Jays should still be able to add talent to their team. MLB analyst Ben Verlander predicted they would land both Tucker and Bichette.
...Bichette is a fan favorite and has made it clear he wants to stay in Toronto. Bichette was not good in 2024, but slashed .311/.357/.483 with 18 home runs in 139 games last season. His defense is an issue, but he could move over to second base soon.
Bichette is projected to sign an eight-year, $186 million deal. Keeping him around could be great for the Blue Jays' offense for years to come. While Bichette will be expensive, Tucker will cost the Blue Jays even more. He is a four-time All-Star and the top free agent available this winter.
Tucker had a down year with the Chicago Cubs, but he was still an All-Star. Additionally, his home and away splits indicate that a new home ballpark could get him back to dominating offensively. On the road, he had a .923 OPS and hit 15 of his 23 home runs. At home, he had a .747 OPS. He has 134 home runs since the start of 2021 and would be a great long-term addition. However, he is projected to sign a 10-year, $401 million deal.
The Blue Jays are not shy of spending and pursuing big-name free agents. However, Tucker and Bichette could cost them over $500 million combined.
