Bassitt signed a three-year, $63 million deal with the Blue Jays in 2022. He was an All-Star in 2021 and was all right for the Blue Jays. Since 2023, he has made 95 starts and has a 3.89 ERA. Last season, he was moved to the bullpen and thrived there in the postseason.
He is now 36 years old and could be looking for an opportunity to start again. The New York Yankees will need to find a way to cover innings at the beginning of the year with Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón sidelined, and NorthJersey.com's Andrew Tredinnick predicted he would sign with the Yankees.
..."With injury questions to start the season, the dependable righty fills an immediate need and can slot into a swing role if needed down the stretch," wrote Tredinnick.
In seven postseason games, he had a 1.04 ERA in 8 2/3 innings of work out of the bullpen. He allowed just three hits and struck out 10. He could be a weapon for Aaron Boone out of the bullpen when the entirety of his preferred rotation is healthy. At worst, Bassit could try to establish more value as a starter, and the Yankees could trade him if he is unhappy with a role in the bullpen.
