By Cole SullivanShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe New York Giants fell to 2-11 on Monday night after a 33-15 loss to the New England Patriots, in rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart’s return following a two-game absence due to a concussion.
However, much of the attention surrounding the Giants centered on fellow first-round rookie Abdul Carter, whom the team selected with the No. 3 overall pick. For the second consecutive game, Carter was benched to start due to tardiness.
Carter sat out the entire first quarter on Monday night, during which the Patriots erupted for 17 unanswered points before he eventually returned to the field.
Following the game, Carter addressed his benching but faced backlash for remarks that many felt lacked sincerity from a player expected to be the cornerstone of the defense.
"[Expletive] happens. I ain't gonna get into detail, [expletive] happens," Carter said when asked about the reasons behind his benching.
When a reporter repeated the question, Carter simply responded, "You asked me the same question, I just answered."

"This is not good, he doesn't care about it. Houston we have a problem!" A fan said.
Someone else added, "Bad attitude and not a team player."
Another person wrote, "This is the prime example of don’t tell me what you can do show me what you are willing to do… he’s not motivated to be great, obv poor work ethic, not sure if you can coach this out of him."
"He isn’t good enough to be acting this way," one more fan commented.
...This season, Carter has recorded 17 combined tackles and 1.5 sacks across the 13 games he’s played for New York. However, he has struggled to find any rhythm with a Giants defense that, despite its talent, has underperformed.
