Giants edge rusher Abdul Carter was benched again Monday night, this time for the whole first quarter against the Patriots.
According to Richie O’Leary of On3.com, the benching was because Carter was late (again) to a team meeting.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAfter Monday’s loss to New England, Brian Burns defended Carter’s character while speaking to the media.
“I think it’s just an honest mistake,” Burns said. “He’s human. He makes mistakes. At the end of the day, he does have to be a pro, he does have to take accountability, which he did for what happened. I’m just trying to help him be the best he can and try to help him through his rookie campaign, that’s all.”
Carter was also asked by reporters about his benching.
“S--t happens,” he said.
Carter missed the Patriots’ first two possessions and then was on the field for their third to open the second quarter. At the end of that drive, he picked up his first full NFL sack.

The reason that time was that he reportedly slept through a walk-through practice while at the team facility. Carter denied that he was asleep, though he admitted to missing practice.
