The Los Angeles Dodgers might as well get even better. Why not?
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWhat's the good of back to back World Series titles if you don't three-peat? That might certainly be how the rest of baseball is feeling about things, but L.A. is certainly all over the rumor mill this offseason as a team looking to take more steps forward.
One of the new rumors involves St. Louis Cardinals left-handed hitter Brendan Donovan, who can play second base, third base or left field and is coming off a season in which he batted .287.
ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel list the Dodgers as the top possible landing spot for Donovan in a trade.

"The Cardinals are not eager to trade Donovan, but the market for him is percolating, and a number of teams see the 28-year-old as an option at second base, third base or left field," the ESPN duo writes. "Because of his excellent bat-to-ball skills and gap power, Donovan can bat leadoff or occupy a middle-of-the-order role on a team with boppers. Almost nobody is off-limits as new president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom retools the Cardinals, and Donovan is the best of the available bunch."

Donovan is also in a great contract situation.

"He has plus ability to get on base, though the rest of his game is around average. He primarily plays second base, with some versatility, and hits left-handed. Donovan is a steady 3-win player with more value than most fans realize."
ESPN lists a handful of other teams in the mix, too: the Mariners, Yankees, Red Sox, Pirates, Giants, Royals and Guardians.
But when the Dodgers really want something, they seem to have a way of getting it.
