James Franklin just flipped another Penn State commit

As if Penn State's early signing period was not already looking bleak enough, the Nittany Lions saw one of their last remaining commitments jump ship to follow its former head coach down South. Offensive lineman Benjamin Eziuka has officially flipped his commitment from Penn State to Virginia Tech and former Penn State head coach James Franklin.

Eziuka confirmed his latest commitment decision on social media on Tuesday morning, a day before the start of the early signing period for the Class of 2026. The three-star lineman from Michigan is the latest in a series of flips or former Penn State commits ultimately choosing to stick with their relationship with Franklin over Penn State, and it may not be he last.

With the latest flip from Penn State to Virginia Tech, Penn State's recruiting class stands at just five commitments. On the same day as Eziuka's commitment to Virginia Tech, the Hokies also received a commitment from wide receiver Davion Brown, one of the players who backed off a commitment from Penn State after the firing of Franklin.

All eyes on national signing day now turn to four-star safety Matt Sieg as he prepares to make his official commitment announcement. Sieg is Penn State's highest-rated commitment still on the board, but Virginia Tech has seemingly become the trendy pick among recruiting analysts and experts as his announcement approaches.

In the meantime, Penn State's search for a new head coach is still dragging on and the impact on this year's recruiting cycle is continuing to be devastating.
