Michigan State football has hired its next head coach, and we are now starting to learn some of the terms of his deal.
The Spartans made the hiring of Pat Fitzgerald as their next head coach official on Monday night. The hiring came after reports of Fitzgerald being the guy came out shortly after the firing of Jonathan Smith on Sunday afternoon.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementSo how long is Fitzgerald's deal and how much will he get paid? Reports from Tony Paul of the Detroit News have an answer to both of those questions. Per Paul, Fitzgerald has signed a five-year deal, with the salary "believed to be starting around $5 million" per year. His contract, though, will include annual escalators and is "heavy on incentives" per Paul.
Fitzgerald is set to be formally introduced as the Spartans next head coach on Tuesday afternoon. His introduction press conference will take place at 3 p.m. ET.
We should soon find out the exact details of Fitzgerald's contract, but I trust Paul's reporting on this matter knowing he has connections to Michigan State. Stay with Spartans Wire for additional coverage and details on Fitzgerald's contract once we know more.
