Vanderbilt basketball coach Mark Byington advocated for the Commodores' football team to make the College Football Playoff.
The football team finished the regular season at 10-2 with a win over Tennessee but is currently viewed as unlikely to make the CFP. The committee's final rankings before the selection show will be released Dec. 2 (6 p.m. CT, ESPN).

But just looking at what Vanderbilt's done, I think it'd be ridiculous to keep them out. They've shown they're one of the best 10 teams in the country ... and I haven't seen anybody better than Diego (Pavia). He makes everybody around him better, and I think he makes the other sports around here better."
The Vanderbilt basketball team is 8-0 and will take on SMU at Memorial Gymnasium on Dec. 3 (8:15 p.m. CT, SEC Network).
