A cinematic obsessive with the filmic palate of a starving raccoon, Rob London will watch pretty much anything once. With a mind like a steel trap, he's an endless fount of movie and TV trivia, borne from a misspent youth of watching monster movies on TV, perusing the sun-faded goods at the local video rental shop, and staining his fingers with ink from the Video Movie Guide. Areas of interest include science fiction, film noir, horror flicks, '70s disaster pictures, Bond movies, '90s action, giant robots, dinosaurs, super heroes, and the exuberantly schlocky output of Cannon Films. He also enjoys both Star Trek and Star Wars when they're good, and maybe even more when they're bad. As a Canadian, he also has a vested interest in Canadian movies and TV shows, especially the cheesier ones dubbed "Canuxploitation."
An expert on Marvel Comics, he has also written for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and is a member of the Marvel Research Team. He can frequently be found pontificating on comic-book continuity or bemoaning the misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs on his Twitter account.

Looking for some romance this New Year's? Mubi can't get you a date for an NYE party, but they can give you The New Years, a new Spanish romance miniseries. It's set to debut on the streaming service on December 3 with a two-episode premiere: for a first taste, Collider has an exclusive sneak peek of the series for your enjoyment.
In the new footage, Ana (Iria Del Río, Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End) is in a car being driven by her mother, who's paying more attention to quizzing her about her coworker Eva and his suitability for her brother (who isn't thrilled himself) than she is to the narrow and busy streets. Ana's new boyfriend, Óscar (Francesco Carril, You Have to Come and See It), meanwhile, is suffering silently in the back seat. Sure enough, they come inches away from a collision; luckily, they do eventually arrive at their destination, where it seems the new lovers will part. Where will Ana and Óscar's relationship go from here? You'll have to tune into Mubi tomorrow to find out.
What Is 'The New Years' About?
The New Years centers around two people, Ana and Óscar, who meet on New Year's Eve of 2015: it also happens to be the night they both turn thirty. When they meet, she's a mess; she hates her job, she has trouble keeping friends, and she's still living with a roommate. Óscar, meanwhile, is much more stable; he's a successful doctor with a loyal stable of friends. Each succeeding episode takes place a year later, before finally concluding in 2024, when they both turn forty. The series' unusual structure allows the audience to see how the characters and their relationships evolve. The New Years was created and directed by César-winning director Rodrigo Sorogoyen (The Beasts); he co-wrote the series with Sara Cano and Paula Fabra.
British streaming service Mubi became a major player in the streaming game when it exclusively acquired last year's breakout body horror blockbuster The Substance. This holiday season, it's set to release the Jim Jarmusch anthology film Father Mother Sister Brother; other upcoming releases include Jane Schoenbrun's horror film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, Karim Aïnouz's thriller Rosebush Pruning, and Andrew Haigh's Colm Tóibín adaptation A Long Winter.
The New Years will premiere on Mubi on December 3 with its first two episodes; new episodes will drop weekly until the tenth episode, the series finale, premieres on January 28, 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
