A mainstay at both the box office and on the streaming charts, rarely a day goes by that the ever-brilliant Gerard Butler isn't on either. Earlier this year, Butler was part of one of the year's highest-grossing projects in theaters, as the live-action How to Train Your Dragon earned just shy of $650 million worldwide, and currently sits just outside the list of five highest-grossing movies of 2025. Also receiving an incredible critical reception, 2025's How to Train Your Dragon is one of the biggest triumphs in Butler's career, with one of his more underrated efforts currently proving popular on streaming.

At the time of writing, Butler's divisive 2018 action flick Den of Thieves is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Tubi in the U.S., a list also containing another of the Scottish actor's projects in London Has Fallen. Despite the frustrating box office failure of the recent sequel, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, the first film was much more successful during its theatrical run, turning a reported budget of $30 million into a strong global haul of $80 million, split between $45 million in domestic revenue and a further $35 million from overseas markets. A synopsis for the heist thriller reads:

"Nick O'Brien is the hard-drinking leader of the Regulators, an elite unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Ray Merrimen is the recently paroled leader of the Outlaws, a gang of ex-military men who use their expertise and tactical skills to evade the law. O'Brien, Merrimen and their crews soon find themselves on a direct collision course as the criminals hatch an elaborate plan for a seemingly impossible heist -- the city's Federal Reserve Bank."

'Den of Thieves' Wasn't a Hit With Critics

Although fans often cite the film as one of Butler's most underrated action thrillers, nothing could save Den of Thieves from the negative opinion of critics back in 2018. Earning just 42% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes compared to a more favorable 63% from audiences, Den of Thieves was criticized for a lack of originality, with the consensus on the review site reading, "Den of Thieves pays energetic homage to classic heist thrillers of the past; unfortunately, it never comes close to living up to its obvious inspirations."

Den of Thieves is streaming now on Tubi. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for all the latest streaming stories.
