In a sea of box office disappointments, a select few titles stand tall as 2025's biggest successes. From the billion-dollar triumph of Disney's live-action Lilo & Stitch to the above-expected success of the video game adaptation A Minecraft Movie, it is often the strongest existing IPs and brands that prove the most financially fruitful. However, among the reboots, remakes, and sequels, Ryan Coogler's Sinners fought off competition and took a healthy bite out of the box office, all with a fresh and exciting horror tale. The last time vampires were so refreshingly popular in theaters was arguably back in 2008, with the big screen debut of the Twilight franchise.

17 years later, Twilight is back on the streaming charts, fresh off a return to theaters for a special anniversary run and in the shadow of Sinners' success. At the time of writing, Twilight is the most-streamed movie on Pluto TV in the U.S., outperforming the likes of the record-breaking Titanic, all three movies in the Rush Hour trilogy, and even one of the franchise's own sequels: The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Featuring breakout performances from Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, and a rewriting of the vampire monster as romantic, coming-of-age symbols for a new generation of young-adult audiences, Twilight was a hugely popular hit when it first arrived, even if critics only awarded it a 48% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. For the somehow uninitiated, the film's synopsis reads:

"High-school student Bella Swan, always a bit of a misfit, doesn't expect life to change much when she moves from sunny Arizona to rainy Washington state. Then she meets Edward Cullen, a handsome but mysterious teen whose eyes seem to peer directly into her soul. Edward is a vampire whose family does not drink blood, and Bella, far from being frightened, enters into a dangerous romance with her immortal soulmate."

'Twilight' Was a Box Office Hit

In total, the Twilight franchise has earned an enormous $3 billion at the global box office. Starting as it meant to go on, the first installment might not be the highest-grossing, but it still performed admirably, turning a reported $37 million budget into $403 million worldwide. Split between $194 million in domestic revenue and a further $209 million from overseas markets, Twilight finished 2008 as the 13th highest-grossing movie of the year worldwide.

Twilight is currently streaming on Pluto TV. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for the latest streaming stories.
