Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert underwent successful surgery Monday to stabilize a fracture in his left, non-throwing hand, which was a broken metacarpal bone. The team announced that his status is considered day-to-day, and his availability for the upcoming Week 14 game against the Eagles will be determined later in the week.

Herbert sustained the injury during the first quarter of the 31-14 victory over the Raiders on Sunday. The fracture occurred in the back of his left hand during an open-field tackle by Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn.

Despite the injury, Herbert wore a protective glove and returned to finish the game, where he operated primarily out of shotgun formation and did not take any snaps under center. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh said that backup quarterback Trey Lance will get reps with the first team in goal-line scenarios this week, so he is prepared if the Chargers need him against Philadelphia.

The team will monitor Herbert's recovery throughout the week before making a final decision on his playing status.

"It all comes down to the doctors. I've got a lot of things hanging on the wall here, but a medical degree is not one of them," Harbaugh said on his appearance on Fox Sports' The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
