The lads turned in a much better display on Saturday, reverting to our familiar 4-3-3 (ish) formation that’s served Regis Le Bris so well during his tenure in charge. But, having gone to a back five against Chelsea and Arsenal recently, will we stick with what worked on Saturday, or go back to a more defensive line up? It’s a tough one to call – but here’s what I think we’ll do.

Goalkeeper: Robin Roefs

There was nothing Roefs could do about either of Bournemouth’s goals on Saturday, and the game at Anfield is another big fixture for the young keeper who’s been exceptional so far.

Defence: Nordi Mukiele, Dan Ballard, Omar Alderete, Reinildo

After much deliberation, I think we’ll go into this game with a back four. It worked well on Saturday, and while that alone isn’t enough of a reason not to change to a back five, I think we’ll try to keep it simple, and get an extra body into the midfield. If that’s the case, I can’t see any changes being made to the starting defence – all four did well and it was great to see Alderete back in the line up.

Midfield: Granit Xhaka, Noah Sadiki, Enzo Le Fee

Enzo Le Fee was excellent on Saturday, and he should start in the centre of midfield, alongside Xhaka and Sadiki tonight. The trio worked well together against Bournemouth, and I think we’ll need three in the centre of the pitch permanently tonight, so let’s hope all three are bang at it!

Forwards: Bertrand Traore, Brian Brobbey, Chemsdine Talbi

Wilson Isidor hasn’t done anything wrong at all, but Brobbey’s doing everything he can to force his way into the team, and I think his hold up play will be beneficial tonight. On the right, Traore should start after getting his first Sunderland goal, while I think Talbi will get another go on the left – he can protect Reinildo a bit and can drop into a wing back position if we did want to drop a bit deeper too. Mundle’s appearance on Saturday was a boost – it’s interesting where he is in the pecking order compared to Adingra…
