Apart from signing players, Manchester United also need to take a call on the future of a couple of key first team performers.
The contract of Casemiro, who has enjoyed a career renaissance under Ruben Amorim, is set to end next summer.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Brazilian has been an ever-present part of the team this season, but his ageing legs have meant he has completed 90 minutes only once so far.
He is currently the highest earner in the squad, and INEOS are keen to trim the wage bill, and hence they are not triggering the one-year extension option in his contract.
Maguire, Casemiro contract up
Harry Maguire is another star whose contract runs out in 2026. The Red Devils remain open to offering him a new deal but on reduced terms.
Both stars are free to agree a pre-contract with foreign clubs from January, with the Brazilian, in particular, attracting plenty of interest from Saudi Pro League sides.

That is because no foreign clubs have come forward with any contract proposals, nor is there any concrete interest at the moment.
United in no hurry as no concrete offer yet to be tabled
“December’s here and the clock is ticking for Casemiro and Harry Maguire, who can speak to overseas clubs in just 30 days’ time unless United decide to extend their Old Trafford careers.
“Confidential understands neither player has a concrete offer on the table at the moment, although United still have time to stop them from leaving as free agents in the summer.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“United are determined to drive down their wage bill, and Maguire and Casemiro are two of the bigger earners as well as being among the oldest players in the squad.”
Amorim has benefited from the presence of the two veterans but United need an upgrade in their positions. And ideally, United would want to agree new deals on lowered packages, something Casemiro, especially, might not agree to.
But no concrete offer will please Amorim as he likes both experienced stars. An interesting January window awaits the club.
