Liverpool cool interest in Nico Schlotterbeck

Borussia Dortmund are trying to extend Nico Schlotterbeck’s contract beyond 2027, but are facing competition from several top clubs.

Now, however, it appears that one of the centre-back’s reported suitors have put their efforts to sign him on hold.

According to Sport Bild, Liverpool have decided to cool their interest in Schlotterbeck for now, with the report stating that he is “not the top priority” for the Reds.

Schlotterbeck has also been linked with Bayern Munich. However, with a recent BBC report claiming that the Bavarians are closing in on a contract extension with Dayot Upamecano, they may not step up their efforts to sign the German international.

This could work in Dortmund’s favour. BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl recently spoke confidently about the chances of keeping the 26-year-old.

“I know that Nico is giving this a lot of intense thought, that he is very attached to this club, that this club is very important to him. That’s why I remain optimistic,” Kehl told Ruhr Nachrichten.

Schlotterbeck joined Dortmund from Freiburg in 2022.
