Dec. 3—WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Kennedy Moore, a sophomore forward out of Flathead High School, has started every game during Wake Forest's 9-0 start to its basketball season.

Wearing No. 15, the 6-foot-2 Moore is averaging 5.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and just under 17 minutes a game for the Demon Deacons. She also has 16 assists and six blocked shots on a team that averages 18 assists per game and is holding opponents to under 30 percent shooting.

Wake Forest will look for its first 10-0 start since 2008-09 when it hosts 2-4 William & Mary Wednesday morning at Lawrence Joe Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Gibbons swims to UMary record

BISMARCK, N.D. — Olivia Gibbons, a freshman out of Glacier High School, set a school record at Division II University of Mary in the Marauders' dual swim meet held on Nov. 22.

Gibbons swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 5.11 seconds to break the 4-year-old program record of 1:05.79. She also won the 100-yard individual medley in 58.82 and was on the Marauders' winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams. Mary won all 11 events in a 171-27 win over Concordia College of Minnesota.

MSU's Lamson 7th in Payton voting

Montana State quarterback Justin Lamson finished seventh in the recently-completed voting for the Walter Payton Award, for the top offensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Lamson, a junior, garnered one first-place vote and 40 points total; media members voted for their top five choices.

Montana sophomore QB Keali'i Ah Yat was ninth in the voting with 30 points. He had one second-place vote. Teammate Michael Wortham, a senior receiver and return man, tied for 18th.

Three quarterbacks — Youngstown State's Beau Brungard, Western Carolina's Taron Dickens and NDSU's Cole Payton — make up the top three and are invited to the Stats Perform FCS National Awards Show on Jan. 3 in Nashville.

Cats' Dowler 4th in Buchanan vote

Caden Dowler, strong safety for the Montana State Bobcats, finished fourth in the voting for the Buck Buchanan Award, for the top defensive player in the FCS.

The junior amassed five first-place votes and 65 points in voting by media. The top three vote-getters — Fordham linebacker James Conway and defensive ends Joshua Stoneking of Furman and Andrew Zock of Mercer — are invited to the Stats Perform awards banquet in Nashville on Jan. 3.

Conway is the FCS tackles leader with 159; Stoneking had 14.5 sacks this season to go with 23 tackles for loss; and Zock had 20 sacks for Mercer, the No. 6 seed in the FCS playoffs.

One other Big Sky player, defensive end Jacob Psyk of UC Davis, finished 20th in the voting.

MSU's Chirrick goes back-to-back

FARMINGTON, Utah — Montana State guard Taylee Chirrick, who led the Bobcats to their comeback 71-70 win over Colorado on Sunday, on Tuesday was named the Big Sky Conference women's basketball player of the week for a second straight time.

Chirrick, a sophomore out of Roberts, had 21 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists in the win at the CU Events Center. Nine of her points came as the Bobcats made up a 12-point fourth quarter deficit.

She's averaging 19.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 4.5 steals a game — the latter ranks No. 2 in the nation.

Northern Colorado guard Quinn Denker won the men's award for the second straight week as well: He scored 23 points in Northern Colorado's 71-53 win over Air Force.
