If you're looking for a new horror game to play that won't break the bank, I think you could do a lot worse than this recently released free game on Steam that's available to download now.

A Silent Hill-style survival-horror with some classic Resident Evil vibes thrown in for good measure, this is a short, sharp horror from a small first-time developer that will definitely have flown under your radar.

Ravenmoore Is A Short, Free Horror Game

Ravenmoore is all about exploring an "oppressive and terrifying environment", which sounds like my house when the family comes over for Christmas. The game follows a young boy who decides to explore an old and abandoned psychiatric hospital. I mean, I'd tell you for free that sounds like a terrible idea. But then I guess there wouldn't be horror games if characters didn't wander into obviously haunted places.

Here's a small plot teaser from the game's Steam page:

"This place ceased to be what it once was a long time ago, due to inexplicable events that still offer no clue as to what happened. But what is certain is that there are extremely dangerous creatures here. Be careful when exploring this place and don't let HER fool you. What could happen to you is much worse than you can imagine..."

Given this a small, first-time game that's been made available for free, don't go in expecting perfection! It's an interesting experience, albeit a little rough around the edges.

Ravenmoore's inspirations are clear

While nothing like as polished as Silent Hill, it's clear where Ravenmoore is drawing its inspiration from. If you're feeling the itch for a good, short psychological horror, this could be well worth checking out.

Ravenmoore's dilapidated setting promises to be full of "secrets, monsters, very disturbing places, and endless horrible things", which again, sounds like my house at Christmas when the family come round.

There are an endless number of free games to play on Steam, but this is one that could be worth your time if you're in the mood for some quick Christmas thrills. Because nothing says Happy Holiday like a horror game about exploring an abandoned asylum.
