BYU head coach Kalani Sitake emerged as the frontrunner for the Penn State job this week as the Cougars prepare for a potential College Football Playoff run.

After the news of Sitake's candidacy for the job emerged, Crumbl cookies CEO Jason McGowan took to social media with a message stating, “Some people are not replaceable. Sounds like it is time for me to get off the sidelines and get to work."

He then started a rallying cry of support to keep Sitake with the program.

"Why do you love Kalani? What does it mean to you to have @kalanifsitake as our head coach at BYU? Right now is the moment to let Kalani feel the love, respect, and gratitude of Cougar Nation," he said on social media. "He has given everything to this program. Let’s show him how much he means to all of us. To make it fun, I’m giving away four 50 yard line seats and airfare to the Big 12 Championship game for two incredible responses. Share your heart. Let’s lift Kalani together."

Just a few days later, BYU locked Sitake up with a long-term contract extension that keeps him from leaving for Penn State.

“We are excited to announce a long-term agreement to extend Kalani Sitake as BYU’s head football coach,” the school said in a statement on Tuesday, Dec. 2. “He is a proven leader, and we are grateful he is once again choosing BYU. His legacy of building a championship program the BYU way will continue on. He is one of the best people in the business. We are excited to continue to ride the wave of positive momentum with him.”

One day later, new Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin appeared to have a message for the program that fired him. At the Virginia Tech signing day ceremony, Franklin brought in Crumbl cookies as the dessert of choice.
