French speciality materials provider Arkema has obtained ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) PLUS certification for speciality polyester resins manufactured at its Gissi facility in Italy.
The Gissi site becomes the latest addition to Arkema’s network of ISCC PLUS-certified advanced liquid resins plants, which comprises sites in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Mollet del Vallès, Spain; Navi Mumbai, India; North Kansas City, Missouri; Pasir Gudang, Malaysia; Sant Celoni, Italy and Zwickau, Germany.
The certification is aimed at customers looking to increase the use of alternative feedstocks in polyurethane systems for construction adhesives, packaging, automotive and other industrial uses.
The latest move further extends the company’s mass balance programme across its advanced liquid resins operations.
The mass balance traceability chain helps track the flow of materials through a production system and attribute the inputs of a production process to the outputs of that process through certified bookkeeping.
This ensures that certified feedstock replaces an equivalent quantity of fossil-based raw materials.
Bio-attributed content represents the share of biobased or recycled feedstock allocated under the ISCC PLUS framework.
The latest accreditation is part of Arkema’s wider mass balance strategy covering technologies and products across its coatings portfolio, including high-solids, waterborne, ultraviolet-light-emitting diode-electron beam and polyester powder solutions.
Arkema advanced liquid and powder resins global business director Franck CHARRIER stated: "This announcement marks a considerable milestone for Arkema as all of our advanced liquid resins facilities worldwide, acrylics, polyesters, alkyds and polyamides, are now ISCC PLUS certified.
"The certification in Gissi brings us closer to our overall target to improve how products are made and support industry-wide goals related to carbon footprint reduction."
Arkema reported sales of €9.5bn in 2024 and has operations in 55 countries, employing 21,150 people.
"Arkema gains ISCC PLUS certification for Gissi facility in Italy " was originally created and published by Packaging Gateway, a GlobalData owned brand.
