During his 40 years with the Fort Myers High School football program, Sammy Sirianni Jr. has seen a number of impressive National Signing Day classes for the Green Wave.

But he couldn’t recall one better than the 2025 class featuring Judah Daniels (Florida State), Joel Ervin (Miami) and Kendall Guervil (Florida).

“This is about as good as it gets,” Sirianni Jr. said. “Anywhere you go in the state today, I think it would be hard to find a school that had a kid going to Florida, Florida State and Miami in the same class. That’s a tribute to the kids, to the parents, the families, everybody.

“I’m saying this honestly, this is as special a day of a recruiting class that I’ve ever been a part of.”

For the trio, Signing Day was the culmination of a years-long journey that will see them move from being teammates on Fridays to rivals on Saturdays.

“It’s been a long wait since freshman, sophomore year, from me getting my first offer from USF,” said Ervin, a 6-foot-5, 330-pound offensive lineman.  “I’ve just been waiting for this day my whole life and it finally came. Just amazing. I’m full of emotions and happiness right now. I’m just happy to be a Cane.”

Ervin said to hear Sirianni Jr. refer to this as one of the best signing classes in Fort Myers history was humbling.

“Being a part of this class is amazing,” he said. “All of us guys, we went against each other to make each other better. We just pushed each other for greatness and this is where we’re at now … I’m extremely happy and proud of these guys and proud of myself as well.”

Ervin had plenty of epic practice battles against Guervil, a 6-foot-4, 315-pound defensive lineman. Those got cut short this year, however, when Guervil suffered a season-ending knee injury during a Week 2 win over Mariner. He said his recovery is progressing well and that he’s healing quickly and recently starting running a bit.

Despite the firing of Florida head coach Billy Napier, Guervil said his commitment to the Gators never wavered.

“I was comfortable because my whole recruiting class, we knew we didn’t want to leave the University of Florida,” he said. “We were all able to keep each other uplifted and in high spirits. UF is just a great place, the people there, the coaches, the atmosphere. Everything I feel like I need is at UF.”

Daniels, a 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive lineman, said he was excited for the opportunity to join Florida State, which was the first school to offer him a scholarship.

“They showed a lot of love,” he said. “The whole culture, the D-line culture, I just can’t wait to get in there. Florida State, they’re one of the top programs in Florida, you can’t go wrong with them.”
