Instant reactions: Ryan Nembhard’s double-double catapults Mavericks to win over Heat

Dallas Mavericks guard Ryan Nembhard called for an Anthony Davis screen. When the Miami Heat doubled the rookie point guard, he slipped a pass to Davis on the roll for a dunk.

That vision was something Nembhard showed all night in the Mavericks’ 118-108 win over the Heat on Wednesday at the American Airlines Center.

Nembhard finished with 13 assists and one turnover, marking his second straight game with 10 or more assists.

But the rookie didn’t just facilitate — he added 15 points for Dallas.

The 6-foot guard drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to spark a 16-6 run that sent the Mavericks into halftime with a 64-54 lead.

With a team-high 13 points and six assists in the first half, Nembhard recorded his third straight game with at least 10 points and five assists by halftime.

He also had help, as seven Mavericks scored in double figures.

The win gives Dallas its first three-game winning streak of the season. The Mavericks lost 15 of their first 20 games before securing back-to-back wins over the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets to close a 2-2 road trip.
